74yr old mum diagnosis of lung cancer

Hello im new to this site and would love some feedback on lung cancer. My mum was diagnosed yesterday with it after biopsy results.  The consulant said it was aggressive which is good as chemo works well with aggressive cancer.  He said it had spread onto her adrenal glands which the chemo should shrink it right down.

My mum is very healthy for her age not on any medication and suffers with nothing at all. Can any one give me any advice on what to expect during chemo I know its not going to be a very nice time for my mum or us :-(

She goes today to discuss the chemo and treatment starts next week.

  • hi my mum too is 74 and recently diagnosed with womb cancer, anybody got any advice, she lives on her

own, and i do worry that she must sit there worried.

  • Sorry to hear your sad news.

My mum was given advice yesterday from the cancer consultant. He said she is stage four small cell aggressive.  If she does not have chemo she has four months left. She is obviously having the chemo as he is confident it will shrink it right down.

    Her chemo starts 5th October.

My mum also lives alone since her husband passed 7yr ago so I can relate with you worrying.  I work all day but I always ring her and pop in when I can she also has many friends.

    Is your mum having treatment?

  • hi sorry so long to reply to you - my mum starts radiotherapy October 13th x 4 sessions, but ever since she had the operation she has had one infection after another that seems to really bring her down.

yes like you i work full time and call mum each day and pop in like you when i can.

    how is your mum doing

    Tracey

  • Hi

My mum goes for pre assessment tomorrow and chemo Monday.  She has not had a operation as it is unoperable :-(

She also has got to have four sessions.

She has caught this nasty cold and cough virus this week and is on antibiotics until Saturday so I'm hoping it clears it up in time for chemo.

Hope your mum goes on ok and I will let you know how my mum copes  with her first session.

Wishing your mum all the best xx
