My dad with grade 4 GBM needs a friend

Hi All,

I'm posting on behalf of my dear 68 year old dad who is a retired small business owner, gardening and woodworking fanatic, and was diagnosed with a GBM4 brain tumour (inoperable) a few weeks ago.

The brain tumour has very quickly rendered him unable to walk, so he is now suddenly severely disabled as well as contemplating the gravity of his situatuon.

He has just finished his first round of chemo and is at an all time low. He has been so amazingly positive since this bomshell came for us all but now, understandably, he's finding it very difficult to feel positive.

He has been keeping a blog to update friends and family with bits of diary, sharing thoughts, poems and songs he finds meaningful etc. But what he would really like is if someone in a similar situation contacted him.

So basically I'm appealing to anyone who is suffering and would like to drop him an email, comment on his blog- he would love to hear your story! Likewise if you or anyone you know keeps a blog do share it with him!

The blog is at www.b0dger.com, (that's with a zero) you can also find his contact details there.

Also- if anyone knows of any pen pal or other online communities that might help my dad find someone to talk to please let me know!

  • Hi and sorry to read the news about your dad.  I don't have the same cancer but in replying I am bumping up your message in the hope someone who can help will, unless you have had responses already via the email address.  Sounds like your dads is doing an amazing job of it all under the circumstances. Best wishes and keep strong

  • Hello buttermere,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat!

I just wanted to let you know that I have done a search for you and found quite a few potential pen friends for your dad who have also recently been diagnosed with glioblastoma. So feel free to get in touch with them and respond to their own threads!

First we have Terry who is 68 like your dad and is a glioblastoma survivor - you can read Terry's thread here. I can also suggest Rufforth's thread here and Peewee's here. Those are just a few examples and if you hit 'Search Forum' at the top and type in 'glioblastoma' you will be able to find all the recent conversations and respond to any thread that caught your attention.

I hope this helps and very best wishes to you and your dad!
