Hello, I'm new to this site and I'm just looking for some support, information and advice from people in a similar position to Myself or experiencing lung cancer themselves, anything would be much appreciated. My Mam has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer, from the staging on the CT scan it appears to be Stage 3a, as the CT Scan showed the tumour was within 2cms of the carina which can apparently possibly make Surgery difficult, the CT Scan also showed marginally enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes, following a Bronchscopy (to obtain a biopsy and take a closer look) undertaken after the CT Scan however it revealed that there was no disease Tissue within 2cms and that Surgery maybe possible. My Mam has also just had a PET Scan to clarify if it's in My Mam's lymph nodes or not, hopefully not. Radical Radiotherapy and Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy have so far been mentioned as possible treatments, a Multidisciplinary a Team Meeting is being held today regarding Treatment and the Next Step. The tumour is apparently relatively small measuring at 2.7cms however her Right Upper Lobe has completely collapsed apparently, this however is having No effect on My Mam, she had a Breathing test (Spirometry I think it was called) and Her Breathing was exactly as it should be for a woman of Her age, She is otherwise completely Fit, a Well and Healthy, has no breathlessness, blood in her sputum, chest pain and only the very occasional tickly cough, She is relatively young at only 59, with no other health conditions. We've sort advice from Two a Consultants who both state they can offer My Mam a Treatment. My Sister is also having a baby in October (My Mam's First Grandchild, a First of Many She and I Hope and I get Married in next May, the First of her Daughters to Marry) so She has Plenty to Live a For, She's a Strong Lady with a Wonderful a Support network also. I guess I'm just wondering what Treatment People in similar situationss have received and if it's been Effective? My Mam has been rather low on occasions (which I know is normal) she thinks the Professionals may not be able to do anything for her, as a Family We Are a Positive and Encourage My Mam to Be, She is trying but I understand She has Her a Wobblee. Secondly I've been attempting to research Dtage 3a lung cancer in order to Help My Mam receive the Best, and Most Appropriate Effective Treatment however when doing so I come across a lot of statistics that are not very positive at all and this has frightened Me, I'd Love to hear from People who Have Survived a Stage 3a lung cancer, who Are Living with it, who Are Receiving a Treatment for it or know someone who is. Any other information You feel may Help Me Would be very Much Appreciated. Thank You in Advance, Rachel
