I feel so low

Having had the good news that my breast cancer hasn't spread to the rest of my body, i initially felt great relief, but it's suddenly hit me like a brick that I still have cancer and i now feel incredibly low. Very few people know that I am ill. Those who do are still reeling from the shock so I don't want to burden them , but I feel awful.

  • Hi Margaret, I have been following your chats with the others and , as I said to Flora, it's great that you can chat & share experiences as you go through all this "fun".

Hope the cardiogram goes/went well for you today? All the very best for your continuing treatment and I will keep my fingers crossed for you that all goes well.

Finally, three months after finishing my radiotherapy, I am now starting to feel human again. The swelling and "discomfort" (as the medical bods would call it!) are calming down a bit although I could still sleep for England given the chance! I am told that having had treatment to both sides this was to be expected but no-one warned me at the time that it would take quite so long to recover. .. hey ho. I also have to have another procedure done to my shoulder late sept/early oct so am hoping to have a few weeks of normal before that happens.

     Take care  Sue x

  • Well, it's been an interesting couple of days. Had the clip inserted on Friday, having had to sit for two hours in a crowded waiting room thanks to the incompetence of a little jobsworth clerk. Felt fine after the procedure but then yesterday my temperature soared so was admitted into hospital overnight.

Home early this morning though with a massive dosage of antibiotics to take.

This is certainly turning out to be different from what i expected!

  • Oh Flora, I am sorry about your trip to hospital! And even more so with your experience with the 'jobsworth', I have been so lucky so far, everyone I meet is so kind and thoughtful but there is bound to be one lurking somewhere.......

i have finished my injections thankfully, I am sure they have been making me feel quite unwell for a few hours.  It passes but is unpleasant for the afternoon and it seems best to sleep through it.  No wonder I stay awake at night though! Hope tomorrow I will feel ok all day.

i have a scarf-tying session on Wednesday which I am quite looking forward to as I am pretty useless with scarves in general.  I also fancy a Hijab style but don't want to draw the notice of mr & mrs n Parker opposite , knowing me I will get into the frame of mind one day and think 'sod 'em all' and go out in something outlandish to shock!

Sue, glad to hear you are finally feeling better at last.  I know what you mean about the medical bods, I have only just started to notice improvement in my swelling and uncomfortable lumpiness, which normal as it may be, is uncomfortable but is dismissed as 'good' errggh!  Hope you have a good few weeks before your shoulder procedure.

Hi Tracey, hope you are ok?

take care everyone, hugs Margaret xx

  • Hi Margaret, sorry to hear the injections have such an effect on you and hope that you start to feel better now that they are finished with. Good luck with the scarf tying on Wednesday.

Flora, oh dear, what a horrible time you have had, I hope the antibiotics kick in as soon as possible for you.

    Take care  Sue xx

  • Hi purplelily , I've read your ladies posts ... Made me smile !! Not butting in re scarf tying ... I had numerous tries with scarves but with out much success , I was constantly figgeting with them . Any way I look online and found a cotton beanie company called bold beanies ... Fantastic selection and SO comfortable to wear best wishes Christelle x

  • Hi Christelle, thanks for that, I will have a look - need all the help I can get with headwear!   I've knitted about a dozen bobble hats, which is ridiculous when i stop to think about it - I expect they will be too scratchy and hot.  But it's kept me occupied for a few weeks and that was the idea.  Decided to divert my activities to making myself an adult version of my granddaughters 'not very well blanket' so when I'm feeling *** I can hide under it!

    best wishes Margaret xx

  • The ladies from Headstrong recommended an online company Annabandana. She has scarves that are elasticated. I tried a couple on , and they were brilliant. So easy just to slip on if you have to answer the door or something. I ordered three and they were despatched very quickly. They were a reasonable price too.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Margaret
I'm fine thanks, I've gone back to work today just part time until my next chemo which is due next Thursday.

As far scarf tying, I, too am pretty uselss, however now it seems I'd rather wear one at the moment but I'm managing.  Only the top of my head has gone bald so far so I'm just wearing a scarf like a headband and my colleague at work adjusted it for me this morning - well it is one of hers that she's kindly donated.

    Hope you're ok

    Tracey xx

    Hi Flora

I hope you're getting on okay.

I've had quite a few scarves etc from Anna Bandana and can confirm they are all very nice, not expensive and my orders have arrived only 2 days after placing them.

    Tracey xx

  • Hi Tracey,

Thanks for caring. I've been fine since the weekend. The antibiotics must be working well. Have been staying with friends for the past forgnight since beginning treatment, but felt well enough to come home for a few days. I live alone and am about an hour away from the hospital so it was easier to stay with the friends who were driving me to the hospital for all my tests and treatment. Am going back to them this wedkend though as my second chemo is next week.

Thank goodness for genuine friends. It's at times like this you find out who your real friends are.

    Take care xx
