Diagnosed today - my dad has pancreatic cancer

We thought my dad has diabates for 2 years and was treated by doctors for the same. While his weight continued to loseand doctors said its because of diabates. Today he os diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which has spread to lungs, bile duct and liver. . Doctors have told us that surgery and chemo both are not advisable at this stage. He is 72. Can any one advise me what can I expect ? And what can i do ?

He has 6 children including me as only son and 5 daughters and he always loved me the most. . I am so scared to lose him and not have him around me. Although i am 36 but he is still my guardian angel . I will be devastated without him.

  • Hello Onlyson

I'm so very sorry to hear the news about your Dad. It's understandable that you are feeling the way that you are at the moment.

I know that lots of our members here will say to try and just take each day as it comes and not to look too far into the future, easier said than done sometimes I know.
We do also have a team of nurses here and I wonder if you'd find it helpful to call and speak to one of them to talk through some of your questions. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Sending you, your Dad and all the family our best wishes.

  • Hi.  So sorry for your news.  k can totally sympathise with what you are going through and how angry you must be feeling too.  Our dad is not 69 and has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer

dad has had many symptoms over the past few years & months. He has had cameras up & down & blood tests & scans, all apparently normal.  He had Helicobactor Pylori Infection last year (which increases the risk of stomach cancer) but he was never told that) which he was treated for & told had been cleared.   He recently complained of several things, including heartburn, breathlessness, feeling bloated, unable to swallow.  All fobbed off by doctors and specialists.  Why did they not flag that up when these symptoms followed ????

He has devastatingly just been diagnosed with a gastric Adenocarcinoma, which is already within just a few months...according the to doctors !! T4b N2 M. It has already spread to his spleen & pancreas and he's been told it's inoperable.

He is so angry (and rightly so) as we all are   We are all absolutely devastated.  Our dad is our hero to us & all his grandkids.  I don't actually think he & mum realise he's not going to get better & I don't know what to do.  He is about to have his 2nd round of chemo and is doing amazing well, he doesn't even look ill which makes it so difficult  I like you am I confused as to what to do or feel and I cannot imagine having to live without him none of us can.  I have no idea what we are supposed to do other than carry on as normal, which is what he has asked.  I'm sure your dad will be the same.  Mine finds it hard to talk about, claims everything is al okl
