My Best Friend

My lovely best friend got diagnosed last week with Brain and lung cancer which is in the lymph nodes metastasis. After being hospitalised with apparant puemonia for 6 weeks. She is becoming very weak and drowsy altho she isnt on ventilators anymore. They have offered radiotherapy and chemo if she remains stable but otherwise they said they will make her comfortable. She is having physio but is unable to move or walk without help. They have already refered palliative care. No one wants to ask or commit to her lifespan. I know the enevitable will happen but does anyone honestly have an idea as We are making plans for when she comes home which is positive in itself but to prepare myself to say goodbye, any idea of prognosis here? Thank You x

  • Hi

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum though sorry for the reason you find yourself here.  It is always difficult to set a timeline in these cases as it seems that every personal journey is different. When a close friend of mine (primary cancer breast) developed secondary cancer in liver, bones and brain she did undergo both chemo and palliative radiotherapy as she was reasonably stable which slowed things down a little for her. When treatment was stopped (it was not being effective) she passed away within four months (though the doctors had said around 6 weeks). My friend had a wonderful attitude despite only being 59 shortly before her passing and I am sure your own friend will appreciate all that you are  trying to do for her at this most dificult of times.

Anytime you need to chat the forum will be here to listen. Regards  Jules54

  • as with all these things timings are never accurate but she does sound poorly and I would prepare yourself as best you can for the most difficult to come. i found with my friend she wanted me to be her normal right up to the end. have a laugh when you see her and just be thee for her. I never had the  Talk if you know what I mean at the end as she passed away when I was on a visit to see her and the decline from talking to me to her passing was 4 days, so I know what a shock it can be when it happens. all my love and prayers to you at this time. what would we do without our lovely friends? x
