My Dad has secondary liver and spleen cancer

They recently found that my 75 year old dad has secondary liver and spleen cancer.

They have come to this conclusion having done blood tests, a CT scan and an ultrasound.

He has now been sent home from hospital 'for a week' and will then be brought back in for further tests, endoscopy and colonoscopy I believe.

My problem is why has he been sent home? I know better than anyone that hospitals aren't nice places and it's great to be home but could they have done this because they can see how advanced it is in the liver and that treatment isn't an option. Has my dad been told this and just not said? He is hard of hearing so maybe he didn't hear them tell him some things?

Would be nice to chat with people who have had similar experience.

I am considering speaking to the consultant on my own to see how the land lies

  • Welcome to the forum Peadar!

I think you are right to try and talk to the consultant on your own especially if, as you say, your dad may not have been able to hear everything he said.

I am hoping that in bumping your post, others who have had a similar experience will see it and share their story with you.

You can also always ring our nurses for advice on this free number: 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. They're really nice and have a lot of experience!
