Just diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer

After having had bowel cancer last year I have now just been diagnosed with primary papillary thyroid cancer.  I am shocked, angry, sad, frightened and a bit disheartened after winning one battle and now facing another.  How common is it to get two primary cancers? It feels so very unfair.

    Hi RJMcBride

Can I call you RJ? It sound less formal :)

Im so sorry to see that you have another battle on your hands and I'm not surprised you feel angry and shocked. Sometimes life just dumps a whole pile of poop on us from a great height, doesnt it?

I have heard of it happening but I cant comment on how common it is to be diagnosed with 2 different primary cancers. I'm sure somebody will be along soon who can comment on that.

I do hope you have lots of support around you.  Having beaten this awful disease once you have shown that you are strong and gutsy. I wish you good luck on your new unwanted journey

    Warm wishes

    Inula x

  • Im so sorry to hear this stay strong you are a fighter. Can I ask you what your symptoms are for thyroid cancer? I have a lump on my neck and I'm waiting for my results but I have been doing a lot of research trying to figure out what's going on with this lump.

Thanks, Inula. I will be having a total Thyroidectomy in a couple of weeks and radiotherapy after that. I am very scared. Richard

  • Hi, RRH. I have a lump about 2cm in diameter on the isthmus of my thyroid (plus two other unseen lumps in the lobes of my thyroid) just below my Adam's Apple.  Good luck with your test results. Richard
