secondary liver cancer where do i begin

Hi I'm Diane and I'm 72 and was diagnosed with secondary liver cancer. It has not quite sunk in yet i keep thinking is there something I done to cause this but at the end of the day it would probably happen anyway even if I did change my life style. I recently told my family when we went out to dinner in a resturant and i know definently the wrong place but I didn't know when or where I would tell them. I was quite blunt and said look I got some bad news from my doctor I have cancer been diagnosed recently. You should of seen there jaws drop to the floor. But there just now coming round that i have cancer there so supportive and my grandchildren are just amazing they really are. So chemo starts tomorrow and I'm just worried about the side effects and how I will be on my own as my husband passed away a few years ago. Is there anyone that's been there that can help me understand what might happen -Diane x

  • Hi Diane1946,

What a warm welcome you have received and some great suggestions from our members to prepare yourself for tomorrow. It is normal to be scared as you don't know what to expect but I hope you are feeling better now after reading all the comments on this thread. A cup of tea is always a good idea. Did you enjoy the nice hot bath too?

We have some information on secondary cancer in the liver which may be useful to you but perhaps the best thing for you to do would be to give our fantastic nurses a ring first thing tomorrow. I am not sure at what time you start your chemotherapy tomorrow but their lines are open from 9am to 5pm and the free number to ring is 0808 800 4040. Don't hesitate to ask them any question you may have - they know a lot about chemotherapy and they are really lovely.

We'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Please do come back and let us know how it went. We are all here for you anytime you need to talk and we'll all be crossing our fingers wishing that everything goes well tomorrow.

    Best wishes,

  • I am so glad Diane you are feeling better. Baths and tea are great relaxing strategies. With candles and music, even better! If you feel you have lots of questions racing through your head tomorrow, don't hesitate to pick up the phone right after your morning cup of tea and have a chat with our nurses - their lines open at 9am (0808 800 4040). That's what they're here for and they're really happy to answer any question you may have - and really not just tomorrow but any day you need expert advice, they are just a free phone call away.

The forum folk will also always be here for you so try and sleep well knowing that you are not alone, that we are all thinking of you.

    Best of luck for tomorrow,

    Lucie
