Meningitis from lung cancer

My mum has just had a diagnosis of lung cancer that has spread to the brain & caused meningitis, the prognosis is awful & treatment is not an option & it's all happened so quickly. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with this & advice on whether its worth getting a second opinion on if treatment is an option?

  • Hello Char10,

What a shock it must have been for you as it all happened so quickly. We have some information on our website on carcinomatous meningitis which you can read here. Feel free also to give our cancer nurses a call if there is anything you want to discuss with them. They are really friendly and you can get in touch with them on 0808 800 4040 (it's a free number) Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I have also just welcomed a new member whose dad is in a very similar place as your mum at the moment, having been diagnosed with lung cancer very recently. Feel free to respond here if you wish.

I hope this forum will offer you all the support and advice you need at the moment.

  • Poor Mum - poor you. This is dreadful! That's the trouble with cancer - it can move about. It's going to take some time for this to sink in. I would ask for a second opinion - there maybe a trial somewhere or a new treatment. Who knows? We will pray for you all on this journey Best hugs Steven x
  • My mum sadly passed away last night, not even 2 weeks after diagnosis xx

If you want to keep coming to the forum and need to talk, you know we are there for you at any time. Many here have also just lost a parent and can understand just how you feel at the moment.
