Hi Just me,  Read your other post and really feel for you, its very difficult being the other person, you feel so helpless and its very stressful watching a loved one's pain.  If your Dad is in pain while waiting for various results  -   your G.P. should be able to help with this.  Do not suffer in silence nobody can help unless you let them know.  Often Mc Millan are given as contacts as they have a lot of experience with cancer and can point us in the right direction for help,  even when they themselves  cannot directly help.

I'm not a medical person, but good pain control should be available before the results if needed.

we have called the GP and he suggested patches which I declined because my dad hates them, plus I know they wouldn't touch the pain :-( So I'm going to call again to demand something for him, so fed up with no-body helping, the doctor says the pain is his back not the cancer but how on earth would he know that if he doesn't have any information on the cancer. Sorry its just that I feel we're been left without any information

Hi Just me,  your Dad must to so pleased to have somebody fighting his corner.  What have the fracture clinic advised for Pain?  I can't start to imaige (sp) how painful broken bones in the spine is. I recall having strong pain killers which made me feel woozy (morphine based I think) I only took 2 a day allthough prescibed 4 a day as I think I would have been totally out of it.  The anti- inflamortories (sp) worked the best, this was for a twisted back not broken bones!   Your Dad must have something to help. Can you perswade him to try the patches- these would direct pain relief were it is needed without going via the liver and kidneys which is better for the body.  Something must be better than nothing surely.  Try not to alianate your G.P. -  remember they hold the purse strings these day, and direct you to other services.  Its difficult, I know,  as its seems your Dad is slipping between, cancers results/ fractures/ G.P.  Do not be put off, ask who is responible for your Dad well being and put the ball firmly in their court.

Thanks Gardenlady, My mum called the GP this morning and started him on the patches, but tbh I didn't think that was enough, so I called back and spoke to the doctor and said the amount of pain he was in etc, he asked whether I wanted him to be admitted to a hospital, due to him not eating as he's in so much pain, I said no, I just want him referred to Pallaitive nurses so they can manage his pain and at least visit him etc, so hopefully that'll get sorted fingers crossed.

Hi,  my pains gone thanks, luckily only lasted a few weeks while things healed, nothing like a break which must be so much worse.  So glad your Dad's accepting some help.  Are you any further along with the cancer diagnosis?  Hopfully then you will get a named nurse who will be able to point you in the direction of help.

I expect your Dad's in shock, like all of you around him. Men can keep things to themselves, stiff upper lip and all that and find in very difficult when they are faced with something they can not sort themselves.  This cancer things makes us feel so out of control.  Hopefully more treatment is in the pipe-line and will make your Dad a lot more comfortable soon, I do hope so.   take care, gardenlady.

No, no diagnosis yet, we have an appointment on the 24th where I think they tell us what if anything they can do, not sure whether we should have had a diagnois before that

Hi again, I see from your other post that Dad managed to get a CAT scan today.  Normally you don't get the results on the same day as the  analysis needs to be done ,  which I assume will be available on the 24th.  Things will seem a little better strangely when you know the results -  its the waiting that awful, being in no-mans-land. Try not to let your mind run in overdrive - easiler said than done I know, but hang in there, things will be clearer soon and even if not good, treatment will get started and you and your family will have something to push against, no longer left dangling ,if you get my meaning .

Thanks Gardenlady, It seems the pain is from the breaks in his spine, and he's hardly walking now, so I've got Pallative care in to see him today, and they have changed his meds so hopefully he won't be asleep as much now.  Its just all so difficult he's aged 30 years in 2 weeks, so horrible :(
