Synovial sarcoma

I've just been diagnosed with malignant synovial sarcoma after a lump was removed from my foot. I'm waiting for a fast track appointment to a sarcoma specialist and have no idea what to expect. I know it's a fairly rare cancer but is there anyone out there who also has it?

  • Hi sue,  it must be a hugely daunting time at the moment. With synovial carcinomas the removal of the actual tumour plus the surrounding tissues is the mainstay of the treatment. If the tumour is confined to one joint/area then the outcome is promising with upto 70% curative.

The wait for the first appointment is always very hard but as soon as you have more information and a plan from your doctors things will get better. Be strong.

  • Thanks for the reply. It's all been a bit of a shock. The operation was to remove a ganglion but the biopsy said it was synovial sarcoma. So I haven't had the ful surgery required or the scans etc.
