I believe everyone reacts differently, but I think most people feel sickly for the first week, and then you pick up until the next cycle. Did you ask for emend, anti-sickness drug. I found it great. They have probably told you to take care during day 5 to I think 10th day you do not come in contact with infection as your white blood cells are low. If you feel too sick, most hospitals give you a number to call to get more help.
I had 6 cycles of Fec, I did feel a bit sick and wobbly for the first week, but did improve. On the whole I was not too bad during treatment, and the time went very fast. I went out quite a lot and led quite a normal life. I I wore a wig most of the time, which I did not mind, your hair grows back quite quickly after treatment.
I know it probably seems scary at the moment, but you can do this. I am approx 2 1/2 years since diagnosis, and I feel really good and look forward to every day. I am back at work as a special needs support assistant, which can be difficult work, but I really enjoy it. I had stage 2 lobular breast cancer with lymp nodes affected.
Keep in touch with the site, and many people are here to help you.
Take care xxxxx
Good luck to you Jane. Yea = we met quite a few people taking FEC and they seemed to have managed it well after a few days of tiredness. We know one lady whose hair grew back to be better condition and prettier than her old hair!
All the best to you from us both = stevenxx
Oh - yes - watch the germs!!! I work in a supermarket which has loads of germs!! Take disinfectant wipes with you shopping and make all your family wash their hands on getting home. It keeps the house germ free and will keep you away from infections. Make a fuss over it and you will be okay!!!
Thanks guys it's such a worrying and stressful time I don't think it's sunk in properly yet and I'm such a wimp even though I have given birth twice and been trough chemo with my eldest when he was 3!!!!!! The worst thing for me is the feeling sick! I had emend and domp but two hrs after getting home nearly passed out!! Lol it only lasted the first day and since ( now day 5) just felt tired bit jittery and anxious also heart racing and pounding in my ears ! Just hoping it isn't worse
doe next cycle I'm trying to be positive !!! Honest x
Hi Jane
How are you getting on? finished 6 cycles of FEC-T on the 30th January. Lots of ups and downs with side effects, it is what it is I just did my best to go with the flow, rest eat well as I could, took the anti sickness and any other drug for other side effects, particularly found excercise helpful, gentle walking when felt really rough through to normal dog walking, riding, agility when felt ok. It went really quickly, and the most motivational thing is it worked my tumour shrunk by over 80% I went from needing a mustectomy to a lumpectomy which I have just had done.
So hang in there, take care of yourself as best you can, it will go surprisingly quickly.
Good luck xx
