I suppose it must vary. Should start soon though = why don't you phone them and ask - then you can plan. Welcome here BTW = my wife had to wait a couple of months or so - the wait was dreadful. But then they got on with it and she is fine now. I do wish you all the best. Take care = steven
Hi Jane, I was diagnosed on 4th February. WLE and node op on 26 th Feb. Luckily I had clear margins and lymph nodes were clear,
Have just had my oncology appointment today (17th March) and will be having my planning for radiotherapy on 30th and starting the treatment after easter. I have til the next appointment to decide which of the two medications I want to take. It is a roller coaster ride once you get aboard, and expect you won't be long, although it does seem ages whilst you are waiting.
Wishing you well xxx
Hi Jane. I was only recently diagnosed and I suspect different areas vary but my time scale is the following
1 1/2 weeks from ultra sound and biopsy to diagnosis.
9 days later I had my pre-op
12 days until op
approx 4weeks later appointment to discuss radiotherapy
i am in Ipswich I hope this helps. I know the waiting is awful but it does go quite quickly . My op is next Wednesday . Stay positive xxx
Thanx guys I think at the minute the airing around is worse than anything! I'm a stickler for having things organised and dates in my diary is usually how I get through life being a busy working mum so at the moment feel out of control! Suppose will et there soon I'm just waiting to go hosp now to see about my last biopsy results and hopefully a plan xx
Lumpectomy end of December and had another operation to remove lymp nodes in January, and started chemo middle of February, and radiotherapy mid June. This was 2 and a half years ago. I think all hospitals are different. I live in Sout Devon.
I think most people I talk to at your stage find it very difficult and scary. Once treatment starts you may feel better, as you will understand more what lies ahead. You should be allocated a breast care nurse who should explain procedures to you. I would ring up and ask to speak to a breast care nurse, they are normally very happy to talk to you, as they understand what people are going through.
Please do not hesitate to ask for help or if you just need a friendly chat talk to us on this site - I think people are very kind and understand here.
Keep in touch with us, a lot of us have gone through treatment, and may be able to give advice. After 2 and a half years I feel very well and looking forward to the future.
Well started my chemo yest!!! Been a whirlwind two weeks but glad I'm on the right road !!! Felt abit squiffy yest sicky and dizzy n bad tummy but today I'm feeling a lot better!!!!! Don't trust it thought waiting for the next wave lol xx
I was given the drug E-mend, which is a wonderful anti-sickeness treatment. You take one before chemo and a few days after. The Oncologist asked me if I was sick during pregnacy, because women who are, are usually sick during chemo, and I sure was!! so he gave me the E-mend. A few people said in some hospitals you have to ask for it. I found Belvita biscuits helped me first thing in the morning when taking my tablets. I had six rounds of FEC.
I remember starting chemo in the February, and looking out of the window and saying "when the leaves are on the trees, I will have finished chemo" - it went very fast.
During the chemo I did go out quite a bit, I live in south Devon, and often went to work with my husband who travels all over the south west. This helped it took my mind off things.
I was very careful from the 5th day to I think the 10th day when the white blood cells are low, and you can catch an infection easy. During the 3rd treatment, I caught a cold and kept an eye on my temperature, which did rise quite high, I decided to phone the hospital ward and they said come in, and they gave me some anitibiotics and some intrevenous fluid. They said it was the right thing to do as I caught it before the infections got worse. I was only there a few hours.
As I have said before people react differently, but please remember it is a short time. I am now quite fit joined a gym, and lost 2 1/2 stone. My hair has come back thicker than before. I always had long hair, but have kept my hair short, because it suits me better. I would never have cut my hair short before. It is the new me!!!
Yes, you will read about side effects of treatment, and may feel scared, but remember there will be an end to it.
Hope you feel better soon. Please keep in touch, and if I can help you through this journey, I will. I am a positive person and look forward to the future.
