Bladder cancer T2

My husband has been recently disagnosed with bladder cancer T2 NO MO we are awaiting results of biopsies to see if muscle invasive. If it is I think they will want to do a cystectomy.  We are also looking at alternative treatments, cannibis oil  etc .  Has anyone any experience or help with ideas they can offer.

  • Hello archasans,

A big welcome to our friendly forum! Fingers crossed for your husband's results. Waiting is never easy. We have had some people post about their recent bladder cancer diagnosis so you may want to have a look at this thread or even more relevant to you is this one in which the cystectomy is mentioned so feel free to respond there so you can talk directly to others who are in a similar situation to your husband. There is also a lovely regular contributor in this forum, LorraineD, who has bladder cancer. You can read her posts for example here and don't hesitate to ask her anything.

You mention you are looking into alternative treatments like cannabis oil. It is important to be careful as some alternative therapies may be dangerous. We have information on our website about the difference between complementary and alternative therapies which I recommend you read. There has been a lot of interest on the internet and in the press about cannnabis oil. But at the moment it isn't known how helpful it might turn out to be in treating cancer and it isn't readily available as a cancer treatment.  We have a blog post which sums up the research so far which you might find helpful to look at. You can read this here. It might also be helpful to give our nurses a call on freephone 0808 800 4040  so don't hesitate to contact them at any time if you want to check anything with them.

I will now let others with experience of bladder cancer come and say hello!

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Archasans, welcome to the forum, but sorry you find yourself here because of your husband's diagnosis of bladder cancer. I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago with bladder cancer and received a few rounds of BCG treatments. I've also had several cystoscopies, biopsies, and a few surgeries which I won't go into detail with right now. My cancer is not muscle invasive YET and I'm not really sure what the next steps are in my treatment. I'm not really sure why they've discontinued the BCG treatments. It may be that I did have severe reaction to them, or its' because there is a world-wide shortage of it. Right now I feel like I'm in limbo. I just had a biopsy in Feb. and the results were that I have a large tumor and several smaller ones, but still not muscle invasive. I will have another biopsy done in May at which time a decision will be made as to whether or not I lose my bladder. Its' a wait and see I guess. Not fun for sure.

If you have any specific questions that I might be able to help you with, I would be glad to do that. There are not many forum posters on here with bladder cancer. I haven't explored the cannabis thing, mainly because I don't know a lot about, but also I had a hard enough time giving up smoking 15 years ago, that I don't want to go down that road again.

I hope you stay in touch with this forum as it is a very supportive place to be when you just need to offload or get some caring support from others. People on here either have some form of cancer, or they are caring for a loved one with it. Post whenever you feel it might help.

Take care and all the best to you and your husband.

    Lorraine
