Newly Diagnoised Lung Cancer

Good Afternoon, my mum was told she has lung cancer 5 weeks ago. She has had Ct Scans, MRI's , PET Ct Scan, Lung Capacity tests and now on Thursday a Bronchoscopy.

She suffers with Fibrosis and Emphysema cronically although not on oxygen.

She was told at the start by the nurses who will be allocated to her via the MDT team, that she may have surgery, chemo and radiation treatment.

My anguish as is hers and the reast of the family is how much longer do these tests take before they start to do anything.

I know following the PET CT scan she has been asked to have the bronchoscopy to look inside her lungs at the lymph lobes.

But I am getting angry now that nothing is being done to help her.

Love my mum so much I just dont wont NHS dragging there heels.

Kind Regards

Debbie

  • Hi Debbie,

Welcome to this great forum but sorry to hear the reason why you joined. I am no medical person but it's been my experiance that in most cases, the NHS will not start treatment until they have a full picture of the disease. I know it is very frustrating and I do undestand how you feel.

Everyone agrees, waiting is one of the worst things as our minds always work overtime and we tend to think the worst.

Sending kind thoughts and best wishes your way, Brian.

  • Dear Brian

Many thanks for your reply, I think what makes it worst is my friend has just been diagnosied last week with throat cancer, and because she private health care she is being seen and things happening immediatley. Whilst obviously wish her the best of luck I cannot but feel saddened that I cannot do the same for my mum.

Just not a good time at the moment, first my mum 5 weeks ago now one of my best friends last week.

    The waiting is killing me.

    Regards

    Debbie

  • Hi Debbie,

Sometimes thing happen all at once. When my mother was in the last stages of breast cancer witch had traveled to her brain, My youngest grandson who was only a few weeks old was found to have a lot of problems so It was a bad time for me too soI know how you feel.

One way people on here pass the time while waiting is to try and keep as busy as possible or to read a good book. Hope this helps, Brian.
