Prostate Cancer - Keyhole surgery

Hello Everyone,

Im very new to the site, so i appreciated all comments all i can tell you at the moment is iam 54 years old, and just diagosed with prostate cancer

my greason level is 6, im awaiting to see the oncologist and surgeon, my appointments are in December, but i beliieve i need to get scans done as well but scan appointment  not through as yet

I don't want to have this monitored over months/ years, so  that option is out  and i believe Keyhole surgery is better recovery, than Radical Prostatectomy

any feed back on types of surgery is appreicated/ whether good/ bad, as i think honesty is the best policy

can anyone give me feedback on keyhole surgery

Thanks

  • Hi Guys,

i was reading this with some interest....I have had so much go wrong in the space of a year and a bit....diagnosed with cll, waiting to see a gastro man because i look like a pickled onion on a cocktail stick yet i can go over a day with no urge to eat..bloated belly, stomach pains, full of gas....but on this subject here i have interest because last january when it all went bottoms up..i noticed that my pee stream was getting weak....at the moment i sit down because it takes so long.....u remember the days when as boys we would see who could pee up the urinal wall the highest .....well i would fail right now....then i have very strong spasmodic pains right between the crotch..what ever i am doing it makes me stop and just cripples me....also cant remember the last time i managed to get a full erection....doc said i have a slightly lumpy prostate..last year about may time..i did not have a high psa then..also had a ultrasound of my nuts..out here they really warm the gel.....came back with some thing small which i think was the fact i can feel hard lumpy strands in the sac.....i tried a thing they call flowmax for a month..but to no avail..side effects hit me hard......anyway because they then picked up on my cancer which seems started in 2008 but failed to tell me then..the doc went off the problem with my water works alltogether..suffice to say that after 8 months of waiting for an appointment with urologist i have one due on april 11th....also have gastroentrologist on 12th..lol..long time since i had a full calender of dates.albeit the wrong ones.

we had a psa done some weeks..months back but they never call you out here and unless you go back to see them u dont get the results......i also pee a lot during the day but small amounts, wake at night as well...had a renal ultra sound last friday which also checked for post void.....man what a struggle to drink 4 glasses of water....i also have a enlarged spleen with this cancer....friends say at my age i should have had a colon check done some time ago but the docs have not even talked about this yet..i am expecting to have the tube down the throat and up the rear when i see the gastro man..would have hoped for some sort of scan on my prostate by now.....anyway chaps i just wanted to get an idea if this cancer could have spread and if the things i seem to get are similar to others.. or of course be another cancer down there.....i have read lots on the divinci robert and spoke to a guy at the cancer centre who had that done..he says it was so much better.

  • Hi Richard

My story is almost identical to yours same gleeson score!

I made the decision to have  the da vinci surgery which took place 3 weeks ago.

Had prostate removed nerves spared on one side.

Surgery a on par with Mri biopsy and home next day.

Little pain and catheter out last week Monday, its been steady progress only 1 pad a day and some improvement with sexual function so i have to say i have no regrets!

I guess you have to balance up its not the same for everyone but i felt i had few real options and feel free to ask for general tips i found some great stuff on bladder training which has been working great for me.

Anyway good luck with your journey and take it from its not half as bad as i had led myself to beleive lol

  • Hi, dickiemint?

I have had an MRI & bone scan, my cancer t-G is fully contained in the prostate. I am seeing radiology dept next week, and waiting for Apt to talk about the Op. I personally would prefer the keyhole op even though I am a generally fit 74 year old, who looks age 68  and I do not want to wait to long before I'm back on the golf course.  Your comments most appreciated .
