Prostate Cancer

Hi

After a recent operation (TURP) to reduce my large prostate to also help with a bladder that was not fully emptying I had some disturbing news.  Although the operation at present seems to have been successful, unfortunately, the biopsies taken from the removed part of my prostate came back cancerous. I have a MRI and PSA booked for September to see if the cancer has spread further in the prostate. I a, really struggling dealing with the mental side of the this issue.

I am 59 years and in full time employment and finding things a struggle.

  • Younger still..

Had the news this last Wednesday,  PSA bloods Wednesday (i had pre guessed the diagnosis, so saved the consultant 10 minutes of "fluffy unicorns", allowing them to get a blood draw that day)

    Had my MRi Friday night

Now it's Monday and MRI is fully reported, and they'll arrange my appointment (presumably just after MDT update this week)

The waits seem the worst part, it's the uncertainty

    • The waiting is the worst part.  I'm having to wait for my MRI as my recent prostate surgery needs to be fully healed.
  • Yes, you need about 6..8 weeks post TURP, for healing to have happened before staging MRI..

My pathology lab results got mislaid for +9 weeks after cross trust, (mutual aid) TURP so the 8 weeks had already passed, and now they're playing furious catch up
