Trying to stay positive after cancer was removed in my small intestine

Hi

So four and a half year ago i started feeling unwell, sickness, diarrhoea, tummy pain and bloating. Having many doctors and hospital appointments, just to be told I had IBS, Diverticulitis, gastroenteritis, food intolerance, tablet poisoning meand to keep a food diary. But the symptoms continued and I was getting worse. My life had disappeared, the fun, happy, joking women had gone, I couldn't go out, missed so many occasions and turned into this sad unhappy, lonely person. I missed my family and friends so much.

Then 4 weeks ago I took a turn for the worse. I felt so ill and was constantly being sick and ended up bringing up feaces Brian took me to hospital and finally they done tests on me and the ct scan showed up i had a blockage in my intestine. I was admitted straight away and a tube put down my nose to my stomach to release the pressure. 8 bags of *** came out my nose.

2 days later after trying to flush the blockage I had emergency surgery and i had a 12cm blockage in my small intestine, with 2 nodules at each end, so they removed 15cm and rejoined. 24 staples on my stomach.

Im home now and recovering, resting and healing well.

2 days ago on friday I got my results for the nodules removed and unfortunately it was cancer. Not what I wanted to hear. They have removed it all which is good, but I now have to go to guys for a pet scan to see if 2 tiny nodules on my liver are not cancer and its not spread. Im staying positive, hard sometimes thou, but on a plus side I have had the cancer removed.

Im going to stay positive and take one day at a time.

Have my pet scan on Tuesday to see if the two tiny nodules on my liver are cancer or benign. Fingers crossed its benign.  All the cancer in my small intestine has all been removed, which is fantastic news. Im preying its not spread

  • Hello De6 and welcome to Cancer Chat,

You've been through a lot over the past four years, but it's great to hear that the surgery went well and that you're healing at home. I hope that you've been able to keep in touch with your family and friends during all this. Even though you may not have been able to attend every occasion, keeping connected by phone and text can help you feel close to them in spite of everything.

It's not easy to keep your spirits up sometimes, but your wellbeing is so important right now, so keep going and, as you say, one day at a time. We have guidance around trying to stay positive on our website, which you can look through anytime.

If you'd ever like to discuss anything with a nurse outside of your medical team, we have a free and confidential cancer nurse helpline available. You can call the number 0808 800 4040 and lines are open from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.

Wishing you the best of luck for the scan tomorrow and I hope you let us know how things go.
