Newly diagnosed ET

Hello,

Just about myself - I’m 40 with 2 sons. I went for a routine blood test in March which flagged with high platelets, I had a 3 further blood tests which all had high platelets then a final round which were requested by a haematologist. Yesterday I was diagnosed with ET (essential thrombocythaemia) which was completely out the blue.

i went to the appointment just on my own as I wasn’t expecting a diagnoses like this.

I am now really struggling with how I’m feeling about it all.

  • Hi Lindsey-NCL,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sure this must have come as a shock and be a lot to process.

I don't know if you've yet received the info from your doctor regarding next steps and what to expect, but if not then I hope you're able to get that soon, and this may help a little.

We have some information on essential thrombocythaemia on our website, in case this is useful.

Hopefully you'll get some more replies to your post from others on the forum, particularly if anyone with similar experience sees it. From the homepage of the forum you can also use the search bar at the top to find other relevant discussions and people to connect with, if you'd like to.

We also have nurses available if ever you'd like to talk things through. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

We're always here for support if you need it. Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
