Sentinel lymph node biopsy results

I had breast surgery for cancer 4 weeks ago and they did a lymph node biopsy taken  which they said the results would be back in 4 weeks.  The appointment was tomorrow but got cancelled today saying the results are not back yet so rebooked for next week.  Is this normal as I was told initially should be 2 weeks but extended to 4 weeks now and now still not back at 4 weeks.  Does this indicate anything wrong with the specimen needing a second opinion or is it the norm to cancel people nowadays.   Have aleready been cancelled once during this journey as they ran out of radioactive dye so couldn't do the surgery on time.

  • Hello Jem997, and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that your biopsy results have been delayed, and for the worry this is causing.

I know it's difficult, but try not to read too much in to this if you can as there could be numerous reasons for the delay. This doesn't make the wait any easier, I know, but hopefully the appointment that has been rescheduled for next week will go ahead as planned and you will finally get some much needed answers and peace of mind.

I hope some of our members who have been in a similar situation will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice but if it would help to have a chat about this with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to answer your questions and support you whilst you wait.

Stay strong Jem, and remember that we will always be here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
