Skin cancer - I've had surgery but waiting to find out if it spread. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi

Ive just joined.  I went to a hospital appointment yesterday.  I was told I had skin cancer and was in surgery within the hour.

I think I was so overwhelmed it took my breath away.

They said it could of spread so I will find out in 4wk where I go from there.

Im so positive. I just wanted to ask if anyone has advice.

Xx

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been told you had skin cancer and that surgery was needed to remove this. It's understandable that you've been left with some questions about what might come next.

Do you know what type of skin cancer the specialists feel you had? There are 2 main types of skin cancer: Non-melanoma skin cancer (which includes basal cell skin cancer, squamous cell skin cancer and other rare types) and melanoma skin cancer. Depending on your diagnosis, the specialists may recommend different treatments. Hopefully, when you get your results back, the team will be able to give you some reassurance.

In the meantime, if it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch greniv and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
