Ovarian cancer - how long do you have to wait for treatment?

Just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, had surgery for full open abdominal hysterectomy, I have an appointment next week to discuss my treatment plan, how long do you normally have to wait on a start date.

  • Hi Anniedo and a warm welcome to our forum,

I am sorry to hear about your recent ovarian cancer diagnosis and I hope that you are recovering well from your surgery. We have information on our website on ovarian cancer which I hope you will find useful and which includes a section on treatment for ovarian cancer

Best of luck for your appointment next week to discuss your treatment plan. I hope that you will find out more at your appointment as to what to expect and the type of treatment you will be offered. I am not sure exactly how long you would normally have to wait on a start date but this is something you could ask next week at your appointment and I am sure they will be able to enlighten you on this. There may be other members on here who have also been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and who may be able to tell you more about how long it took them from diagnosis to start of treatment.

Our cancer nurses may also have further guidance for you on this and on what to expect in the coming weeks so don't hesitate to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (but closed this Bank Holiday Monday).

I hope that you won't have to wait too long for the start date and that the treatment will go well!

    Best wishes,
