Kidney cancer - I think I'm still in shock. I'm also feeling anxious about having surgery. Can someone put my mind at ease?

I have just been told that I have Kidney cancer And I am still in shock I think it’s not really hit me yet I have to have surgery to remove my Kidney it has not spread to any other organs I don’t know how I feel about having such a large operation  I have only ever had minor procedures in hospital I am more anxious of the operation than the diagnosis can anyone  please put my mind at rest xx thank you

  • Thanks.  Can I ask whether when you had your surgery were you allowed someone to wait with you prior to going down. Sorry if that is an awkward question.  I have tried getting the answer from my hospital but all I have had so far is a letter to say I need to go unaccompanied but it's a generic surgery letter.  I am stressing out about having to wait alone.

  • Hi there only when you first checked in ..

once the nurse collected you to go thru admissions no one is allowed to be  with you ..they go thru all medical history / meds etc , give you a gown to change into and then your with other people waiting for their procedures

all personal belongs like jewellery, money is best kept at home .. I was offered a lock up service for my phone .. they have printed labels  for your belongings.

this was my experience.. but the i was never left alone there are nurses /and other patients waiting to whom I chatted to … take a book or something to read that helps
