Large polyp found and 10 biopsies taken. Waiting for results and feeling very worried

Just had colonoscopy yesterday and a large polyps 3cm was found.    Consultant said he didnt think it was cancerous but has taken 10 biopsies from it.  Awaiting results.   He said didnt remove it there and then so will have to go back to have it removed if non cancerous and if cancerous a plan will be put in place.   Anyone had similar experience and what can I expect next.   Feeling very worried right now

  • Hello Tugs

I hope that you're feeling physically ok after your colonoscopy earlier this week. It's good to hear that the Consultant didn't have any immediate cause for concern during your procedure.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be really difficult and it's understandable that you're feeling worried whilst waiting to hear some news. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the biopsy results and then the team will be able to discuss the next steps with you. We have some tips and advice that may be helpful whilst you're waiting for news

In the meantime, if it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (excluding bank holidays).

Keep in touch Tugs and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • I feel physically ok now although the colonoscopy had to be discontinued as I was in so much pain.   I opted for sedation but I did nt really feel it had any effect.

  • Hi Tugs the good thing is you have at least started the ball rolling by having the Colonoscopy ,the other good thing is they don't think its cancerous so try and dwell on these points until you get your results ,regardless of the outcome they will have a plan for you so you are in good hands ,hoping your results come quickly ,let us know how you get on ,Best wishes for a good outcome ..
