BCC ALAR crease

Hello everyone, I have joined the group after having been diagnosed with BCC on the alar crease. I had an excision on Tuesday this week. I wanted to know how everyone found the healing process. The surgeon has stitched up 75% and left the middle part to heal secondary intention. I was a little traumatised by the op and didn’t ask any questions after. I’m pretty sure he said to keep the dressing on for 7 days. The dressing is now sliding down my face and is rock hard. I’m scared to change the dressing myself but I can’t get an appointment with a nurse at my GP practice and not had any luck with the hospital. Did anyone else have to leave the dressing on for 7 days?

Thank you

  • Hi Globetrotter.

Yes you are supposed to keep the dressing dry and keep it on for 7 -10 days even when it smells awful. You should have been given some info and an emergency number to call on you discharge pack. Go to A&E or a walk in clinic if you are concerned or just present your self at your GPs surgery and do not leave until you are seen or get an appointment.
