Help with finding a surgeon

Hello everyone

I have had a dark brown line in my right toe nail that Dermatology have dismissed for the last 2 years. Four months after they discharged me from their care I was re-referred with a suspicious mole on my right forearm, this turned out to be a stage 1a melanoma. I had my wider excision in January 2026 which has returned all clear. Due to this, I have asked for a biopsy on my toe. I am having problems finding anyone local to South Yorkshire that is willing to go in with the intention of excision biopsy. I feel like no one cares, they are so dismissive of it. Dermatology have referred me to Plastics Surgery. I went along for my Consultation on Tuesday and was made to feel like an inconvenience. He isn't going to biopsy the matrix so basically my results will probably come back inconclusive. I'm scared that this is going to be missed. Can anyone suggest a surgeon with experience in excision biopsy?  Thank you

  • Hi Rosieandloki,

I am so sorry they have been dismissive of your concerns about your toe nail and I can understand given your history with melanoma that you would want to have peace of mind. It might be worth getting in touch with your GP again, sharing your worries and asking whether you could get another specialist opinion.

Other members of our community may have been through something similar and will have some suggestions based on their personal experience on how to go about finding a surgeon with experience in excision biopsy. However, as per our forum terms and conditions, we do not allow names of surgeons or hospitals to be shared on the forum.

Thank you for your understanding and best of luck in your search - I do hope that you will be taken seriously and get the full reassurance you need.

    Best wishes,
