Ascending Colon Cancer - has anyone else had a similar diagnosis?

Just been for a Colonoscopy and the consultant found a growth that he was virtually 100% sure it was malignant. He did give me some hope that he didn't believe that it had spread. Sent off biopsy for analysis and to book in for scans.

Has anyone had a similar diagnosis

  • Hello Why1

I'm sorry to hear that you're facing the possibility of a diagnosis of colon cancer. It's understandable that this might be a worrying time, but it's good to hear that in the specialist's opinion, it hasn't spread.

We know that for many people, this period of uncertainty and waiting for results and then a treatment plan can be really difficult. Hopefully you will be able to connect with others who have been through treatment for bowel cancer such as  aka  David who is one of the community members and a 10-year survivor of stage 4 bowel cancer. Hopefully he will pop along to say Hello! and share some of his advice and tips with you.

In the meantime, if it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your next appointment with the specialist and they will be able to give you some answers and reassurance.

Keep in touch Why1 and let us know how you get on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Why1,

You are currently in the worst place insomuch its the not knowing that is the killer stalking your mind.Surpisingly it becomes easier once you know exactly what you are dealing with, even if that is a positive diagnosis.

For now you do not need to imitate Ben Hur, so try to leave the chariot parked in the garage. Stress is the overload that can pull your body down at the very time you need it to be at its best. The earlier you realise you have no control on your journeys destination, only how you will travel it , the better you will manage it. If you are in any fight, why would you give any adversary any advantage?

My cancer had spread into the liver and was fast moving, but that in itself is no prophet of doom, as the start date of my journey in December 2013 attests too. All you can bring to any treatment is the best you, pysically and mentally, your skilled Cancer MDT team will provide the rest, you provide the environent to allow that the best possible chance. Embrace this from the outset and give success the best possible chance,

Take care and go gently forward.

    David
