DCIS and concerns re ovaries or bowel

I've a 12 cm DCIS and have been told I need a mastectomy. I looked at having DIEP flap reconstruction and so was sent for CT to have a look at my stomach wall. The CT showed some abnormalities in possibly the ovaries or the bowel so I've had a second CT and awaiting a biopsy. My surgeon thinks it's unlikely to be a secondary as it's DCIS but has advised it's rare, but you can have 2 separate cancers. Obviously waiting to hear back from second CT and biopsy but is it possible that the DCIS is a secondary if there is cancer elsewhere?

  • Hi Jacqeline,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

You must be very worried at the moment. It is always difficult waiting for results, as there are so many unknowns and sitting in the "unknown waiting room" is not a nice place to be. It is possible to have 2 separate cancers, but this is rare with DCIS. There are other possible reasons for abnormalities in this area, but it is just as well that these have been discovered now and are being investigated. I sincerely hope that your biopsy proves this to be the case. Do you have a date for biopsy as yet?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. In the meantime remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
