Recent symptoms: dealing with oesophageal cancer diagnosis but the treatment hasn’t been confirmed

My partner has just been for an endoscopy and scan as he had firstly hiccups and then reflux a couple of weeks before Xmas . In just over a month we are now dealing with oesophageal cancer diagnosis but the treatment hasn’t been confirmed, we are waiting for the appointment following the mdt meeting next week . He has lost about half a stone but we are managing to maintain his weight at the moment with high protein and carb soft food diet . I am so worried about him .I know until the appointment next week we won’t know exactly what we are dealing with but I am totally consumed with thinking about it and what I can do to help him. I am being positive about it with him but inside I am breaking . Sleep is difficult for both of us . He is recovering from a knee replacement 12/1 so that’s obviously keeping him awake sometimes. He is doing so well with the knee replacement and is walking every day and doing the physio exercises. I’m not sure what is coming for us , I’m frightened

  • Hi Campervan,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It sounds like you are dealing with a lot and this must be difficult to process. It's good to hear that he is doing well with his exercises and with maintaining weight.

There will be a lot of uncertainty at the moment I'm sure, and I know this won't be easy. Hopefully once you hear more at the appointment it will help a little in terms of understanding next steps.

Keep speaking to others where helpful - including friends and family, and of course this forum is always here whenever you need an outlet.

Hopefully you'll get more replies to your post here soon.

Keep looking after yourself too through everything.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
