Knee pain - I was diagnosed with stage 3a lymphoma

Hello I have been reading these posts very interesting. Last jan I had an operation to repair what I was told to be a right knee minicus tear .the operation went fine .after countless physio sessions my knee felt fine.Arpril 25 I started feeling tired .and noticed lumps in my neck and under arm.i went to the doctors and was referred to the ent department for tests.long story short after scan after scan and a biopsy i was diagnosed with stage 3a lymphoma. My consultant placed me on a watch and wait for three months after my symptoms starting progressing. I started chemotherapy in oct25.but ever since I have been diagnosed my knee pain and swelling has got worse no one has told me that it was in my knees but once I have chemo the swelling and the dull achy pain goes away. I have told my consultant this but she assured me there were no signs of lymphoma in my knees  I just think it's too much of a coincidence not to be. Going to raise this again on my next appointment.

  • Hello Newlifebegins,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat and thank you for sharing your story and that you were diagnosed with Stage 3A lymphoma. It's unfortunate that your knee pain got worse after your diagnosis and you did well to tell your consultant about your worries that the knee pain might be linked to the cancer. I think you can be reassured by the consultant's words and expertise that the knee pain is unrelated to the lymphoma but it wouldn't hurt to raise your concerns again at your next appointment. Mention that you find it is too much of a coincidence for it not to be linked in some way. You did have an operation to repair a knee tear prior to your lymphoma diagnosis and the physiotherapy sessions worked well so it sounds like the knee issue was a separate incident but that since being diagnosed with lymphoma, for some reason it has brought back this fragility in your knee and you are experiencing more symptoms.

Your consultant will be best placed to tell you why this pain may have got worse since your diagnosis so don't hesitate to share your worries and concerns and ask all the questions that spring into your mind so that you can get full reassurance on this matter.

Other members of our forum may have experienced knee pain and/or lymphoma and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
