Lung cancer surgery - has anyone had VATS?

Hi

I was diagnosed with 60% chance of it being Lung cancer in May this year. Had Ground glass opacities which one showed up glowing on PET scan. Surgery was planned several times but due to infections was cancelled. New CT in January 2026 then Surgery.

Its an early lung cancer no spread 16mm. Anyone else had similar.

Ive no symptoms except chronic tiredness and night sweats but I do have other health issues so this could be that.

Been told its a VATS Surgery a 4/5 days in hospital then home. They'll test it while im under to see whats what although  could hopefully potentially be chronic infection due to pleurisy or childhood scarring.

Im a bit scared leaving my Son who's being looked after. Its all getting real now xx

  • Hi MumnaBee and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry you've been diagnosed with lung cancer but it's good to hear it's been caught early and hasn't spread.

We have some information about the video assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) you'll be having on our website, but if you have any questions or concerns you can give our cancer nurses a call next week on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline will be open Monday - Friday (except New Year's Day) between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you whilst you wait.

Hopefully some of our members who have had this type of surgery for lung cancer will share their experiences and advice with you soon but in the meantime, we're sending you all our support and wishing you all the best with your CT in the New Year.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
