Endometrial Cancer - diagnosed with stage 1 at the age of 27. Is there anyone around my age that has been diagnosed with this too?

I have been diagnosed with stage 1 endometrial cancer a few days ago. I am 27. I am yet to have children, myself and my partner have been trying for children for many years. I have pcos and hypothyroidism. My cancer diagnosis was a complete shock. I had a hysteroscopy to remove a polyp, the team could not find the polyp but took biopsies. Those biopsies have come back as stage 1 cancer. Please has anyone been diagnosed at my age or near my age?

I am so scared. I am worried about my fertility. My team have prescribed me hormone medication (medroxyprogesterone) to pro long my fertility in the hope that the cells clear, I can try for a baby and then have a hysterectomy in the future. I am awaiting an MRI which is in a few days time. I am praying my cancer is localised. I will have biopsies every 3 months. I just cannot believe this is my life. I am scared, anxious, overwhelmed and just feel sick with worry. Any positive stories ? Thanks for reading.

  • Hello Emily-27 and a warm welcome to our forum,

I am so sorry to hear you were diagnosed just a few days ago with stage 1 endometrial cancer at such a young age and at a time when you were thinking about having children. I can imagine it was a complete shock for you that these biopsies came back as stage 1 cancer. It's normal to be scared but it's reassuring that it is stage 1. I think it's important that you talk to your medical team about your fears regarding your fertility and that you make it clear to them that it is something that you are worried about as you really want to try for a baby. We have information on our website on fertility and womb cancer which includes information on fertility preserving treatment.

Best of luck for the MRI and I hope that you won't have to wait too long for the results and I am keeping everything crossed for you that the cancer is localised. I know it's hard to have biopsies every 3 months but it's good that they will be monitoring you closely.

I just wanted you to know you are not alone and I hope that you will meet other members of our community who have been diagnosed with endometrial cancer at a young age and who may have faced similar choices regarding fertility. I thought I would mention a couple of threads from members who mentioned being diagnosed with stage 1 endometrial cancer. I am not sure if they are of a similar age or not but have a look for example at this thread from another member who was diagnosed with stage 1b endometrial cancer and don't hesitate to respond if you want to add your story and experience.

I know this is a bit of a frightening time for you and I hope that you will find comfort talking to others here who have had a similar diagnosis and I hope that you will hear their positive stories. If you want to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they have a free helpline you can call which was closed over Christmas but will re-open on Monday 29th December at 9am - the number to ring is 0808 800 4040 and they are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
