Moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma left buccal sulcus

I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago after been treated with 4 lots of antibiotics over 3 weeks by the gp for infected mouth ulcer, I am devastated what started as a small lesion has grown at least 5 times in size since the punch box biopsies, I have seen the surgeon and am having surgery, several back teeth removed  tumour removal and neck disection as it has spread to the lymph nodes followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I am at the point now that eating is horrendous, talking is so painful and psychologically shot. My head and emotions are all over the place. Since seeing the surgeon the lesion has grown substantially so have contacted them to try and get an idea of when surgery will commence as I am extremely worried about spread to my throat, lungs due to the aggressiveness of the tumour. Has anyone else experienced this type of cancer and treatment I would appreciate it so much

Kindest regards

Shazza

  • A very warm welcome to the Cancer Chat community Shazza although I'm really sorry to hear what you're going through. It sounds incredibly tough and no doubt this must be an extremely worrying time, especially as you've noticed the lesion has grown whilst waiting for your surgery.

I really hope they're able to fit you in sooner but in the meantime you can bring up any questions or concerns you have about your situation with one of our cancer nurses. I know you're having difficulties with talking at the moment, so you can make a new post in their section of the forum called ask the nurses. They're very insightful and with their knowledge and experience they will do all they can to support you and hopefully put your mind at ease about this spreading.

Hopefully some of our members who have experience with this type of cancer will share their stories and advice with you soon, but in the meantime we're sending you all our strength and support Shazza and are wishing you all the best with your upcoming treatment.

    Kind regards,
