Post Diagnosis MRI Results

I was diagnosed with early stage cervical cancer nearly two weeks ago following a lletz procedure. I was on holiday at the time and asked if I could come straight from the airport for an MRI when I got home. The MRI was done on Sunday, I can see in Patients Knows Best that the consultant has had the MRI results since Wednesday but I've still not heard anything. I'm absolutely freaking out, any ideas how long I should be expecting to wait? Is this normal or am I cooked?

  • Hi Kitkat121,

I am sorry to hear about your cervical cancer diagnosis - it must have been difficult news for you but at least it was caught early stage which is good. How stressful for you that you were on holiday at the time and were asked to rush from the airport to get an MRI done. Poor you that must have been a real downer after your holiday.

As you can see on the information on our website on the MRI scan, you should be getting your results within 1 or 2 weeks. It may be that the consultant has had the results since Wednesday but they haven't yet had the time to pass these on to you. If you haven’t heard anything after a couple of weeks after having the test, don't hesitate to get in touch with the doctor who arranged the test. You could even do so next week just because you sound very worried about it at the moment and it might give you some reassurance to just get an update.

Waiting for test results can make you anxious and every day that passes may well feel like a lifetime and I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news

Keeping everything crossed for you that you get more clarity on all this very soon,
