Phone call to say I probably have gallbladder cancer

From being anaemic > liver test slightly out of range > clear endoscopy > CT scan and today A PHONE CALL from my GP practice from a bumbling GP who told me "you probably have gallbladder cancer"!

I've got to have a biopsy "you'll be contacted in 2 to 3 weeks, call us if you haven't heard by then".

I asked questions... he couldn't answer a lot and that was it.

I'm so angry with him... why tell me over the 'phone, yet when my liver test was odd, they called me into the surgery?!

I did the wrong thing... googled it - dam stupid of me!

  • Hello Beanie3105

I'm sorry to hear that you've been told over the phone this week by a GP that you may have gallbladder cancer. That must have been a very difficult conversation and I can understand that you felt so angry with him.

It's natural that you turned to Google looking for information, particularly as you were left with so many unanswered questions from the doctor. We know that many people turn to the internet when they have health concerns, and unfortunately, what often happens is that they don't find answers, but are instead left feeling more worried and anxious. Try to avoid searching online if you can.

Hopefully you will hear from the specialists at the hospital soon, but if it might help to talk things through with one of our nurses in the meantime, then you're welcome to call them. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

We know that the next few weeks of waiting for tests and answers will be difficult Beanie3105. Keep in touch with us here at Cancer Chat if it helps to have a safe space to put down in writing how you're feeling, ask questions or simply chat with others who understand some of what you're experiencing. We're here for you.

    Sending my best wishes,
