Anyone else had problems keeping medication down?

Hi, I've recently been diagnosed with gastro-oesophageal junction cancer. I'm waiting for some final staging results and confirmation of when my treatment plan will start.  But, I'm really struggling with taking my normal medications (I'm type II diabetic on insulin and take meds for another chronic condition).  The continual acid reflux/bile secretions my cancer is causing makes keeping my medication down  really hard.  Has anyone else experienced this and found something that helps?

  • Hello AnthonySP

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis of a GOJ tumour. It's understandable that you're struggling with some of your other medications at the moment.

Have you raised this problem with any of your doctors? Do talk with your GP or clinical nurse specialist if you've not already done so. It may be that there are options for you to have medications in different formats, e.g. liquid rather than a tablet, which might make it easier to keep things down. There may also be medication available to help improve the problems you're having with reflux/secretions.

If you'd like to chat with one of our nurses for some advice and support, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any information they can.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer for your final results and the team will be able to discuss treatment options with you. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
