Newly diagnosed breast cancer

It came as a shock as everything happened so quickly. From going fir a mammogram at end of August.  Then, being diagnosed on 3rd September and lumoectomy, lymph node removal mid September.

Glad it all was quick but it's a lot to take in. Feel emotional at times and try to do too much and then am very tired. I have good support from my husband.  Just a bit overwhelming at times.

  • Radiotherapy for 5 days or more  beginning of November. I'm very lucky it was caught early as I had no symptoms other than fatigue which I'm not sure if it was connected.  I should be very thankful for mammogram and all the research that us being done.

  • Hello IsobelHelen

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis of breast cancer. It sounds like the past few weeks have been a whirlwind and it's understandable that it can all feel a little overwhelming at times!

it's good to hear that things were caught early and hopefully your recovery from the surgery hasn't been too uncomfortable. It can be easy to overdo things at time so don't be afriad to rest or have an sneaky nap if the tiredness catches up with you. It sometimes takes more energy than we realise to heal.

It's great to hear that your husband has been such a source of support. If it would help to chat things through with one of our nurses at any point you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Continue to look after yourself in the coming weeks and hopefully your radiotherapy sessions will be straightforward for you.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on IsobelHelen. We're here for you.

    Sending you my best wishes,

  • Thank you so much. I help out at a volunteer centre which keeps me active and a lot of friends have been very supportive.

I have my first radiology appointment next Monday.

Feels like it's happening to someone else. It's a strange feeling.
