Mole removed and told it was melanoma. Have to wait 3 weeks for next appointment to see if it's spread. I'm so worried

Had a mole removed recently and had results Friday. Been told it’s melanoma but they got it all out. However been told I need more tests and dye injected to see if it’s spread. Got to have more skin removed and a skin graft. Next appointment not for3 weeks and I’m so worried.

  • Hello Mumofgirls3

I'm sorry to hear that you were recently told that a mole you had removed was melanoma. It's positive to know that they were able to remove it with clear margins but it's understandable that you're feeling worried.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting and additional tests can be a difficult time. If you think it might help to chat things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Mumofgirls3 and let us know how you get on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you have been diagnosed with melanoma and you are awaiting a Wide Local Excision and a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy. It's a lot for you to take in, especially when you need further surgery & you are still healing from the first surgery.

I've sent you a friend request. If you accept it we can chat by private message and you may find it helpful to talk to someone who has been through all this. Meanwhile, if you feel your anxiety is getting worse, contact your local Macmillan or Maggies centre - they provide great support. If you want to ring a dedicated melanoma nurse, take a look at Melanoma Focus who have a nurse's helpline - they can answer any questions you may have. Melanoma Helpline - Melanoma Focus

Good luck with the surgery and please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
