I’ve been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in my right lung, I would be schedule for surgery and I’m very anxious just not knowing what the outcome will be, Has anyone had a similar diagnosis and how are you doing post operative? Thank you.

Hi Intan I had lung cancer in my top right lobe. I was terrified at the thought of surgery. Had it done in June. The fear is worse than the surgery. I had vats. The drain was the uncomfortable. It was a lot better when they took it out. Went home the next day. They are good at controlling the pain, and send you home with meds. I slept in a recliner to start with. It was painful getting out of bed. Pillows might help you. The first two weeks are the worst. Walk around as soon as you can. Then build up the walking daily. It really helps with recovery. I was a bit breathless walking uphill to start with. I was back doing my charity work after four weeks. Hope this helps. Wishing you all the best.
Im 3 weeks post surgery. Lobectomy on right lower lobe. I was so anxious. Im doing OK. You won't know anything about the surgery. You need it done . It will be fine xxx
Hello Intan,
I had a right lower lobe lobectomy (vats surgery) in April last year. The operation was on a Wednesday and I was discharged on the Saturday. I had very little pain whilst in hospital and didn't need to take painkillers afterwards.
I was already making lunch for my husband and I (just a defrosted preheated chicken casserole with some steamed veg - nothing too difficult!) on the Sunday.
I took it easy for a few weeks after coming home but made sure I went for daily walks locally. After a few weeks I was able to walk around a mile without difficulty. After a few months I was back doing aerobics exercise classes. I'm 70 years of age.
The Roy Castle lung cancer website has some good information which might be useful to you.
Christine Mac's reply to you is informative and helpful.
I'm happy to answer any questions you may have and hope everything goes well for you.
