I am nearly two weeks into my new life with breast cancer. I’m so scared and have convinced myself this evening it’s spreading…. I feel like I’ve gone mad and everyone keeps congratulating me on how well I’m doing like I have a choice

Hi Cookie,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Do you know what type of breast cancer you have or what stage it is? This diagnosis always hits us head on and we experience all sorts of emotions along with it. You are naturally worried, but possibly also afraid, angry, in denial and a whole host of other feelings. Many of us find ourselves crying a lot and asking "why me" - sadly, there are no answers to this - don't worry about crying as shedding those tears is a great stress reliever.
You are obviously managing to put a good face on things for the benefit of your friends and relatives, but don't be too stoic. You need someone who you can talk to openly and honestly about how you really feel. Bottling up your feelings is never a good thing and you will find that it gets easier to cope with once you know exactly what you are dealing with and know what treatment you'll be having. Doctors know what type of cancer you have and they won't leave it to spread. Some cancers are more aggressive than others and these tend to be the cases that get priority.
You may not have a choice, but you will get through this and you'll be a stronger person by the time your treatment ends. I had 2 bouts of breast cancer 16 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life today.
Please keep in touch and remember that we are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
