Thy3f - Half of thyroid removed and now waiting for results. Feeling very fatigued, is this normal?

Incidental finding on ultrasound.
All been very quick and feeling completely overwhelmed.

Had half of thyroid removed last week and now waiting for results.

Is it normal to feel extremely fatigued after?   I was not expecting to feel so awful.

My mother died of cancer and my youngest daughter is currently receiving cancer treatment.

I am really worried about the whole situation and need words of comfort to get me through to results day.

  • Welcome to the forum AChad although I'm sorry to hear what was found on your ultrasound.

It's normal to be feeling wiped out after having such a big operation but if you're worried or feel like your fatigue isn't getting better, don't hesitate to let your medical team and/or GP know as they'll be in the best position to help you manage your fatigue.

Hopefully some of our members who have had this surgery will share their experiences and advice with you soon but if you would like to get some reassurance from one of our cancer nurses you can make a new post about this in their section of the forum called ask the nurses or if you're able to, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. They will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

This must be a very difficult time waiting for your results whilst supporting your youngest daughter on their cancer journey but I hope you can take some strength, and comfort, from knowing that we are here for you AChad and sending all our support your way.

I also hope some of these tips we have on how to cope with the wait will help to steady your nerves until you know more.

Rest up AChad and fingers crossed you won't have to wait too long for your results.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
