Newly diagnosed with stage 2 ovarian cancer. I was initially told I would need surgery and chemo, now it's just surgery. So confused. Is this normal?

Last week told I had ovarian cancer stage 2 .diagnosed with a tortioned fibroid . So shocked !! Told at the time .I would need surgery and chemo

Saw the specialist consultant today who said that I probably would not need chemo .Just extensive surgery  So confused . I’m really frightened microscopic cells would be left behind .

is this the normal treatment?

  • Welcome to the forum Mouse2506, although I'm sorry to hear you were diagnosed with ovarian cancer last week and for the confusion surrounding your treatment.

Treatment plans can change depending on all the findings from the tests that have been carried out but if you're worried then it may be worth talking this through with your medical team as they will be in the best position to advise and give you some much needed reassurance and clarity on your situation.

You can find out more about treatment for ovarian cancer on our website, but our team of cancer nurses are on hand if you want to talk to them about any of this as well. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to address any other questions and concerns you may have at this time.

Hopefully some of our members with stage 2 ovarian cancer will share their experiences and advice with you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Mouse2506 and wishing you all the best with your treatment.

    Kind regards,
