Sigmoid colon & liver

I had a colonoscopy at which I was told I had cancer (although biospies to confirm). Phone call from nurse same day so I thought the cate was going to be good. Since then I have had a CT scan, a phone call for outcome, 2 MRI scans & then another phone call for outcome. I am now awaiting a PET CT scan & even though my colonoscopy was on 8th Aug other than the radiographers I have not met anyone face to face or had no support. Still waiting to find out if I am able to have treatment or not. I literally can't function anymore as I feel like I've lost my mind.

  • Hello Flower2025

I'm sorry to hear that you were told earlier in August that you had cancer during your colonoscopy. It's understandable that you're feeling overwhelmed by things at the moment. I hope that you have family and friends around you who are able to offer support.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting for more tests, results and a treatment plan can be really difficult. It's quite common for people to not see doctors or specialists whilst extra tests are being completed. The team are looking to gather all the information they need so that they can discuss your case and talk with you about the recommended treatment(s). This can often take a few weeks to complete.

Have you been given the contact details for a specialist nurse that you can contact? If so, then do give them a call to let them know how you're feeling and ask for an update regarding when you're likely to have more news. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance.

If you'd like to talk with one of our team of nurses for some advice and support, you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully you will have some news soon Flower2025. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Flower2025,

having previously experienced what you are going through l can understand your feelings and fears, its not a nice place for your mind to occupy. What l would say is that on these journey's you have to focus on the positives as much as possible.

You would not wish to receive a rushed mis-diagnosis which could lead to problematical scenario's further down the road, so your medical teams sequenced approach whilst time consuming,is far more preferable.

At the outset until all the information as to your condition without physically operating is available, what is a consultant going to say to you?, something beginning with we think is hardly as reassuring as we are certain.

Frustratingly you cannot see the background continuous inputs of all the specialists of your Multi Discipline Team as they work in unison to arrive at the correct diagnosis and more importantly the correct way forward for YOUR dedicated treatment.

The great positive you should take is that you have a team working for you with a great knowledge and understanding of this area, they are taking a calm, calculated amd thorough approach, seeking the most successful treatment and path to recovery for you.

You cannot change where you are, but you can change how you view it, so holding onto this outlook may help to reduce your stress and get you through the the coming days.

As a ten year survivor of stage 4 bowel cancer with spread to the liver l can attest the only thing you bring to this party is the best stressfree patient you can possibly be. Focus on the term "patient", it has a double meaning for anyone undergoing cancer treatment,

l wish you well and feel sure your first stage on your journey will not be long in arriving now,

    David
