Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Katherine-b although I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
You can find out more about myeloma on our website but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to help.
Hopefully some of our members will share their consultation experiences with you soon as well.
In the meantime, I just want to wish you good luck with your appointment and let you know that we'll be thinking of you on the day.
Kind regards,
Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
It’s thirteen years since I was diagnosed, so I can’t remember everything from then.
I suppose it will depend on which tests you have already had to diagnose you. If you were diagnosed by blood tests, they will also want to do a bone marrow biopsy, if you have not already had this done.
Once they know the type and stage of myeloma, they will be able to discuss treatment options.
Myeloma uk will be able to give you a better idea about what to expect.
At my time of diagnosis stem cell transplant was the gold standard and I achieved a wonderful nine and a half years treatment free as a result
Good luck with your appointment
Thank you, April. I'm 80, so probably not stem cell - I'm seeing consultant tomorrow. Bone marrow complete, he has results. So I'm hoping to hear a plan.
