Recently diagnosed with breast cancer after kidney op

Hi

last year I joined cancer chat as I was told I probably had kidney cancer. This was following scans after my GP found hidden blood in my urine. The tumour was too small to biopsy but still had to be removed. It was found on a pelvic ultrasound in October and I finally had the op in May - no urgency as it didn’t grow between scans - which was a very long, hard wait. In July I found out the tumour was benign. Such elation  after months of worry.

The day after I saw the oncologist I had a routine mammogram. Didnt even think about it. I received a letter ten days to say I needed more investigations. At the breast clinic I had a biopsy and a tag inserted. I waited five weeks for the results; friends and family were convinced it would be nothing because of the wait, but I’m used to waiting!

So on 28th August I was diagnosed with grade 2 breast cancer non specific type with intermediate DCIS. It’s progesterone and oestrogen receptive so I came straight off HRT. The breast surgeon told me to go to the GP to get my coil removed as there’s a long wait to have it done at hospital (I did ask “even for women with cancer?”). The GP couldn’t find the strings and after 45 minutes of poking around referred me to the hospital.

I just feel so unlucky after a year of worry, but in a weird way it’s made this diagnosis a bit easier to handle, I was already thinking I had cancer, but I am scared. My husband is so upbeat I want to scream sometimes! I know the outlook is good, it’s been caught early and I’ll just have to have a lumpectomy and radio. It could be so much worse but today I don’t feel like that.

I’d love to connect with others. Despite living in a big city I hadn’t found a face to face group nearby,
