Oesophagectomy

My partner has Lukemia and has now just been diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his oesophagus. He is feeding through an NG tube, and after today’s meeting they have said he can start chemo and then have the operation.  Has anyone had this op and come through with no side affects or issues because everything they have told us is frightening and the risks seem massive. He is now saying he’s not having the Oo will just have chemo and take it from there.
any feedback would be really helpful thank you

  • Hello Toddy66

I'm sorry to hear about all that your partner has been through. It's understandable that this is a difficult and worrying time for you both, and natural that your partner has concerns and the surgery.

We have information about surgery for oesophageal cancer on our website but I'd suggest you also might want to read some of the stories on this thread about oesophagus cancer as well. I know there are member there who have shared their stories about treatment and recovery. Another member, shared their story about being a 10-year survivor of oesophageal cancer after chemo and surgery in a thread as well.  Hopefully reading some of these shared experiences might offer you and your partner some reassurance about the path that lies ahead.

If either of you would like to talk with one of our nurses for some support and advice at any point you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that this first stage in your partner's treatment goes smoothly. Keep in touch Toddy66 and let us know how you both get on.

    Best wishes,
