Breast cancer

Good morning, I was diagnosed with breast cancer last week, but I’m awaiting biopsy results. I live alone and have been in a bit of a state this morning, worrying. Have called the MacMillan number I was given, but had to leave a message. Just need to offload and ask how do I cope with all this ? Thank you

  • Hi Svw, I followed a chat group on Mumsnet in the past that has lots of breast cancer ladies … I followed it bc someone close to me had bc and I wanted some insight into what they were going through. People on it said often that this initial time, when you’ve had the bc diagnosis but no treatment plan yet, is the worst. So I hope you’ll find once the ball gets rolling you’ll feel a lot less overwhelmed. If you want to follow that thread, I really recommend it, it’s a lot of lovely, supportive people. Go to the Health topic, then the Cancer subtopic, and look for the ‘Cancer support’ thread. In theory it’s for any cancer but I’d say the majority when I was following it had bc. They’ll likely give you loads of good practical advice on coping. Good luck with the biopsy

  • Hi Dawn

Thank you so much for the helpful response, it means a lot. I will certainly have a look at mumsnet , thank you. At the moment I feel very alone, but have spoken to GP today which has helped a little.

  • That’s great that your GP is helping. Mine doesn’t really know me, it’s one of those big practices that trains new GPs where you see a different doctor practically every time. Easy to get an appointment though so I can’t complain. Keep posting here if you need a cheer-up and hopefully someone with bc will come along, and yeah def explore the mumsnet thread. People posted on it for months on end, followed each other all thru their diagnosis and treatment journeys.

  • Hi, sorry you are going through this! Breast cancer now is a brilliant charity, they have a phone line with nurses that you can speak to. I think it's only natural you go through this, your mind works overtime doesn't it. You take care
