Diagnosed today with Basal Cell Carcinoma on the nose and feeling worried.

I’ve gone and done what we would tell any friend not to do and that’s consult doctor Google. When you get a diagnosis, you want to find answers to your queries but it really hasn’t helped my nerves. I have a follow up appointment next week where the doctor will be discussing treatment.
I feel like my worry has been split in 2. There is the C word no one wants to hear and then I’m equally worried about what treatment I will need. I know it’s incredibly vain of me but I’m worried about how I’m going to look once they’ve cut it out. You can’t hide you nose!

  • Thanks Lou, try to enjoy this weekend if you can. I’ll post after my appointment x

  • Hi Lou, I hope you’re having a good day today. I’m just going home on the train after my appointment. The good news is this consultant seemed sure that two of the bumps (cheek and eyebrow) are just moles. So that’s a relief. The eyelid and side of the nose are bcc which will be removed with Mohs.
The bad news is the waiting list for Mohs surgery is 6 to 8 months - and they have to biopsy first, and the first available biopsy date is 09/12. I wonder how long i will have to wait for the biopsy results before the surgery waiting list clock can start ticking?

  • Hi   What great news to hear that the bumps on your cheek and eyebrow are just moles. It must be such a relief for you. Thankfully a piece of positive news to take away from today’s appointment.

You can get yourself prepared for the next stage now, the biopsy. I’m sorry to hear the wait time for surgery is so long. Perhaps you could call them on the off chance to see if there is availability due to a cancellation and get the biopsy done sooner? It might be worth a try, you never know..

  • Thanks Lou, yeah definitely a relief - although still two bccs, it’s better than 4. I did ask the secretary if I could call for a cancellation; she claimed they automatically put people on a cancellation list but she also said I could call, so I think I will. Nothing ventured…

Do you have anything nice planned for this weekend I hope?
