Prostate Cancer

Just diagnosed with prostate cancer. I am 68 very fit, still working and enjoying it. I had no prostate symptoms. I went to the doctor's with what I suspected was bowel problem and blood test showed high PSA 7.2. MRI showed a lesion 13mm then biopsy and rated 3+4 ?? The advice given is leave it 3 months then new blood test and if higher another MRI and biopsy then possible operation to remove? Bowel problem turned out to be Metformin reaction. Is it ok to leave it 3 months?

  • I obviously don't have or know anything about Prostate cancer being female ,but I just wondered why they seem to tell many people to watch and wait instead of operating straight away ,I say this because a friend of mine had a small tumour in his lung and he was on watch and wait every 3 months for well over a year ,I never heard anything so thought all was going well ,just recently there was a post on S/M saying he'd died ,I must say I was very shocked ,I'd told him at the time that I would have had it removed but he was happy to wait ,I'm sure many are on watch and wait and many don't have a choice as can't be operated on like another friend of mine she's on chemo tablets for bladder cancer which has spread but she has a scan every 3 months and seems to be doing ok ,I hope it goes well for you ,I'm sure they will take good care of you ..

  • Thank you. Only diagnosed yesterday so still researching. There are complications from the operation though, one being a chance of incontinence and others even worse, so I suppose if its not needed then better not to chance it. Thanks again for the reply

  • Yes I agree and I'm sure others will reply to your post very soon .

  • Hi, I am similar to you. My scores are 4+4 (T3a) and I’m having a bone scan tomorrow. Then I’ll have to wait 3 weeks to see a consultant. All this waiting is driving me nuts. I’m trying hard not to let my imagination go into overdrive. The thought of waiting 3 months for a time critical process is just too much to contemplate. I just want things to happen now. It’s all the uncertainty and conflicting information. You are not alone.

  • Hi Yorkie70. I understand your worries and the stress your under but that in itself can make things worse. I hope your scan goes well and they find what the problem is, sort it then all back to norm . Time is precious so don't wish it away. Good luck
